When you last saw the powder room, it was looking like this:
Although the wood shelves looked fine, they weren't really working well for the room. The finish was rough & it was hard to wipe the dust & dirt off them. I decided it was time for a quick makeover, so here is the room now:
The toilet got a new black seat (Home Emporium) & some new accessories (thrifted frames; candle holder from Target).
I painted the shelves white & gave them two coats of semi-gloss polycrylic.
The striped bins are from Target, as well as the faux succulents. The bust (aka “pothead”) is from Hobby Lobby.
The ceramic shell is from Garden Ridge. I believe the mirror is from Home Goods. The perfume bottle is from Hobby Lobby. The vase on the bottom shelf was thrifted & the sewing basket was my grandmothers.
I also grabbed a new hand towel & soap dispenser from Target.
I am really liking the brighter, happier vibe in here!

Family Room Update
This will most likely be the last family room update until June, as I am preparing myself for warmer weather & focusing on several outdoor projects. At that point, I hope to finally “officially” start making over this room.
A few weeks ago, my husband & I took a trip to Bargains & Buyouts Outlet, in Hamilton, Ohio. I fully intended to walk away with nothing, but this is what ended up happening:
I came home with two of these chairs:
You can find them online for close to $400. The suggested price was $127, but we made a bargain & got them for $100 each! There are some very minimal defects in them, but they were definitely worth the money!
I also picked up this 8x10 wool area rug, which retails for over $600.
They were having a special on their rugs. The larger rugs are normally $125 at Bargains & Buyouts, but they were on sale for $75. We actually got it for $70! (Don’t mind the clean laundry taking over the family room!)
Here’s another rug I liked, but didn't have a place for:
Their dining chairs & stools are marked to $50 a pair. (Yes, I said PAIR!) I thought these would look great in my morning room, but I’m not quite ready to tackle that room yet!
We had actually driven to Hamilton to pick up this secretary desk that I found on Craigslist. I love the clean lines & the grids on the cabinet doors! It will replace the cream colored one sitting in the morning room.
When I saw it, I thought it was an antique, but they actually still make these. They retail for around $1200 & I got this one (which is in great shape) for $175! At some point I do plan on staining it a darker color & replacing the drawer handles, but probably not until I’m ready to start over on the morning room. I technically still have to finish my living room & start on the family room before that happens!
For now I am basking in the glory of some great deals! These will have to satisfy me for a while, since my wallet is empty!
Have you ever been to Bargains & Buyouts? Have you found any great deals lately? Please share!

Happy Easter!
Despite Easter being pretty late this year, we've been so busy that it sort of snuck up on me! Last week I realized we hadn't partaken in any of our Easter traditions, so I quickly made a list & started getting things crossed off.
The list reads:
I decided to simplify the Easter baskets this year & got each of the kids one $15 item, one $5 item, two $1 items, & some candy. I decided I prefer this over filling their baskets with cheap junk toys that will easily get broken or never played with. Here’s what’s in the baskets this year:
Zeke- 10 Year Old Boy

A New Look for the Nook
When I last left you, I had just finished trying my hand at painting a floral picture. After I filled in about a million nail holes, I patched the paint with a different brand of chalkboard paint, since Lowe's didn't carry the Rustoleum paint I originally used. Please people, learn your lesson from me, & don’t do that! The paint touch ups were totally obvious & I ended up needing to re-paint the entire area. Live & learn.
After the paint dried, I hung my artwork in the nook using some sticky tack & command hooks & added a piece of plexi-glass on top of it, using anchors & some gold screws.
I will now declare myself the world’s worst blogging picture taker! So sorry for my lack of photography skills! I really do like the way it turned out, & it definitely looks much better in person than in my pictures!
